Woodlands Edge received the first 4 Star Green Certification in the United States. This highest certification under the National Green Building Standard is a result of utilizing low impact development techniques throughout the neighborhood. Included were planning, reduction of street widths, riparian area preservation, alternative storm water abatement, wildlife habitat preservation and restoration, trails, and acres of protected greenspaces.
Green building expands beyond the walls of structure to include site and community development considerations. The ANSI approved ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard incorporates a chapter on Site Design and Development for the creation of Green Subdivisions. The Standard provides site planners and developers with a defined set of criteria for planning and designing green lots as well as a point system that can be used as a basis for scoring how green a project will be.
Green Certification is based on the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines and the ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard™. Land Developments can earn One, Two, Three, or Four Stars.
